The Champions League semi-final draw has paired Barça with Pep Guardiola’s Bayern Munich. The first game will be played at Camp Nou on Tuesday 5 May with the return in Munich on Wednesday 13 May. The other semi-final is between Juventus and Real Madrid with the first leg in Turin on Wednesday 6 May and the return in Madrid on Tuesday 12 May.
The draw means Pep Guardiola will return to Camp Nou as an opposing coach for the first time since leaving Barça in 2012. Bayern have been suffering with injuries and it seems Bastuber and Alaba will both miss the semis but Ribery and possibly Robben should be fit to face Barça. It will be fascinating to see Guardiola’s tactics against his old team and with both sides used to controlling the game it promises to be an immense battle. Barça will of course be looking for revenge for the 7-0 aggregate defeat two seasons ago and it has to be said that Luis Enrique has the team looking in much better physical condition than then.
Barça can also be inspired by a possible final with Real Madrid. The possibility has been close before without occurring but with both teams regularly reaching the later stages of the competition it surely has to happen one year. I wouldn’t like to die without ever having seen a Clásico Champions League Final. Could it be this year?
